Searching the database

When You search the database you can combine a number of fields to increase the possibility to find the right soldier. Observe though that there is not full information for all soldiers and the spelling might not be the one you have. So if you don't find the one you are looking for, search less specified and use the possibilities that wildcards give.
The search result will be shown as a list sorted by name where you can click the button for the soldiers document number. You will then get more information about the soldier and see the responsible registry, including any e-mail and webb addresses to them.

Search fields

You can use wildcards in all the fields to increase the possibility to find the right soldier. Use _ or ? to replace one character, and % or * to replace zero or a number of characters. All the fields, except for the parish field, are of the type "starts with", so you don't have to write the full name or year. The parish field is of the type "exact", so that it will be possible to search on parish names like "Å" and others with short names, without getting "Åsum", "Åsbo" etc.

Names

The names of the soldiers are written in the order Surname, Given name eg. Hillman, Lars. Write a comma efter the surname to avoid getting too many name combinations. Eg. Hill, to avoid Hillberg, Hillman and so on.
If you want to search on the first name and write %,%Albert you will get all name combinations that contains the name Albert eg. Andersson, Albert and Andersson, Karl Albert.
If you don't know if Karlsson is spelled with C or K, and with one or two s's, you can write eg. _arls%on, to show all Carlson, Carlsson, Karlson och Karlsson. You can also use wildcards to replace the Swedish characters. Eg. Bj_rn to find the name Björn.
